Buckeye Bargains
In 1966, there was a move to create a way to serve the University and the community in general. The result was a thrift shop that the members named Buckeye Bargains. Through the assistance of Marjorie Fawcett, the wife of the OSU president, Buckeye Bargains opened in the old veterinary surgery theater at 17th & Neil, across the street from University Hall. For years, people shopped the steep rows... until the University decided that it was time the building became "green space," and tore it down. Buckeye Bargains moved from that rather challenging above-ground theater to below-ground, in the NW corner basement of Converse Hall, the ROTC building next to the Ice Rink. We've been at this location ever since.
The Shop phone number is: 688-5732.
Buckeye Bargains sells tons of items for very little cost, yet donating substantially to the UWC Scholarship Fund (#605431). In 2010-2011, even with the economic downturn, the shop's contribution to these funds was $14,000. Because everything is donated, including the workers' time, Buckeye Bargains has become not only a labor of love, but also, some of the best fun to be had anywhere. You should visit the shop - open Wednesdays from 9:00-3:30, when classes are in session - and check out the great buys they have to offer.
We emphasize CLEAN and WORKING ORDER for all donations. If you have some dishes, kitchen items, glasses, small appliances, linens, sheets, towels, blankets or other household goods, please consider donating them to Buckeye Bargains. A dated and signed tax receipt will be provided for your donations.
Year-round donation drop off points are as follows:
Dublin: Valerie Rayner, Beverly Stevens
Hilliard: Barbara Herzog, Rhonda Bova
Worthington: Karen Dertinger, Diane Tanley

Drop-off volunteers will arrange to pick up any goods for people who call with donations but are unable to deliver to donation points or the shop.
