Endowed Scholarship Funds
The UWC supports three endowed scholarship funds which are administered by the Office of Student Financial aid of The Ohio State University. In 2010-2011, 23 deserving students received scholarships: 17 from the UWC fund, 3 from the Fawcett, and 2 from the Weigel, totaling $33,623.
The UWC Scholarship Fund of Ohio State
This fund, #605431, established by the Club in July 1979, provides scholarships, grants and loans to undergraduate students who are Ohio Residents enrolled at the OSU Columbus campus.
In 2010-2011, the Club donated $16,530. $14,000 from Buckeye Bargains sales, the rest from donations by members and waived honoraria.
Endowment interest and our Buckeye Bargains Thrift Shop, the primary sources of income, makes it possible to continue and increase the number of scholarships offered.
The UWC Scholarship Fund of Ohio State in Honor of Marjorie K. Fawcett
This fund, #602129, was established by the University Women's Club in March 1971 in honor of Marjorie Fawcett, wife of then president, Novice G. Fawcett, in appreciation of her inspiration and assistance to the Club. Mrs. Fawcett was key in the establishment of Buckeye Bargains and obtaining shop space. The Scholarships provide funds for junior and senior women enrolled at the OSU Columbus campus, and are distributed based on academic performance and financial need.
The Nina Weigel Scholarship Fund
The Nina Weigel Scholarship fund, #607632, was established September 1951, in memory of Nina Weigel, wife of Music Department dean, Eugene J. Weigel. Each year, the Music Group of the University Women's Club contributes to scholarships for women undergraduate music majors. The School of Music makes the selection. In 2009-2011-2012, three outstanding students recived scholarships from this endowment fund.
