Pyrex ALERT: New Pyrex made in within the past 10-15 years! Owens Corning sold Pyrex brand to China. The original formula was strong; the Chinese have opted to use cheaper ingredients and as a result, produce a cheaper and WEAKER grade of glass. This new formulation can EXPLODE! Do NOT use the newer PYREX as you would the older, made in the USA, pieces - from freezer to oven to table, etc. With this new PYREX, tiny fissures form, even though you might not see them. If moisture seeps into these cracks, heat can cause the plate/cup/bowl to explose. So, unless you know WHEN AND WHERE your PYREX was made, think twice before you put it in your oven or microwave. People have been hurt by flying glass and many dinners ruined with glass shards. And remember, glass and hot burners also do not mix.
